A common worry a lot of people have mentioned is that there are not enough response options for a question (e.g. 'Not at all' to 'A few days' is too big a gap), and that the response options are subjective ('Often', 'Rarely', etc.). I agree that it's tricky when there isn't an option that suits you perfectly, but unfortunately my hands are tied here because the questions are from measures that have been exhaustively researched and validated in that exact format. In terms of the subjectivity of the response options, it shouldn't be too much of a problem because your idea of what each option means will be the same each time it is presented, and each time you do the survey, so we can still measure change over time. In both of these scenarios, just pick the first option that 'jumps out at you'.
A lot of people have also talked about how their relationship with their partner, and their partner's own issues, are directly related to their responses for some questions. This is an excellent point, and I am planning on having my next research project based on these ideas; I'll look at both members of a couple, and how depression, anxiety and sexual dysfunction relate in this dynamic context.
Others have also pointed out that some of the 'demographic' question categories are too narrow, and exclusive to some people. At the sixth time point I now have more options for 'relationship status', but I have left 'gender' as male and female, because this is asking about your anatomical gender to direct you to the right set of 'sexual problems' questions.
It is also now possible to go back and change responses on previous pages in the survey.
There are many more great ideas that you have offered, but unfortunately I can't do any big changes or add in new measures at this point, because that would mean the 600 responses we have now would no longer be relevant in the final analysis. I have kept a record of these ideas, and will definitely incorporate them in my future research.
Thanks very much for all your ideas and input. Keep them coming!
